Energy Storage Membrane Challenges Rechargeable Batteries and Super Capacitors. Researchers from the National University of Singapore's Nanotechnology Initiative (NUSNNI) claim creation of first world energy-storage membrane, able to store 0.2 Farad per Square cm, versus 1 microfarad per sq. cm capacity of standard capacitor, at US $0.62 per farad versus US$7 per farad with existing technologies. The membrane, made from a polystyrene polymer, which is sandwiched between two metal plates, is non spill able and foldable with a cost of 5 to10 cents per Watt-Hour versus 40 cents per Watt-Hour of a lithium-ion battery. Johansburg Favours Solar Power over UPS systems for Traffic Lights Backup. Johanesburg Road Agency (JRA) reveals intent to install 14 pilot sites operating on solar power for its traffic Lights in the near future.
