Following a North American distribution agreement, Digikey will supply via its USA and Canadian
websites Powerex semiconductors, such as IGBT modules , Intelligent Power Modules (IPMs),

New Sic Power Mosfet switch reduces losses by 54 percent, compared to silicon IGBT
Cree and Powerex demonstrate at Apex 2009 , New Silicon Carbid 1200-volt, 100-amp dual
switch power module capable of operating at junction temperatures up to 200 degrees C.
Compared to silicon IGBT module of equal rating, with 150 C Junction temperature , the SiC
module has 38 percent lower conduction losses and 60 percent lower switching losses for a total

IC combining PFC and Fixed Frequency Resonant 600V Half Bridge Driver
ON Semiconductor introduces NCP1901 IC that combines Power Factor Correction controller and
a resonant HB controller with a built in 600V driver in a single package. The combination allows
fixed frequency resonant controller operation, thus reducing transformer size and maximizing

The HB stage operates at fixed frequency, regulation is achieved by adjusting PFC output voltage.

Infineon Technologies AG, introduces third generation thin Q!(TM) SiC 600V and 1200V 3A to
15A Schottky diodes, claimed to feature industry's lowest device capacitance, reduced by 40%. The
low capacity, reduces switching losses, enhances system efficiency at higher switching
frequencies, as well as reducing overall power converter system costs up to 20%.

Freescale unveils breakthrough, DC-DC converter IC operating from single solar cell.
Freescale Semiconductor, demonstrates a DC-to-DC converter IC, boosting 0.32V input to 4 V to
charge a LI-Ion battery with 100mA current. The converter technology, Freescale says, is
engineered to enable industry-leading single solar cell startup and operating performance and
efficiency at levels as low as 0.32 volts, while present charging systems require multiple solar cells
in series, driving up cost, reducing efficiency, and increasing sensitivity to shading and cell

New 5-10kVA UPS for Limited Space Applications
GE Digital Energy announced the GT Series 5-10kVA UL Listed, 115/230V Rack/Tower single-
phase on line UPS with hot swap-able batteries. The systems can be scaled by paralleling up to
30 kVA. GT series compact systems, are suitable for applications where Computer/IT requirements

Fuji Electric and Semikron Team Up
Fuji Electric Device Technology Co., Ltd. and Semikron, signed a supply license agreement. Fuji
will supply IGBT semiconductor chips to SEMIKRON; in return Semikron will supply Fuji with
rectifier diode chips, and module cases in spring contact technology. By using the same contact
technology both companies will increase market penetration, matching customer’s second source
policy.

Unique burn-in tests Increases IPM’s Reliability.
Semikron’s SKiiP, 500A to 2400A , 1200V and 1700V Intelligent Power Modules are claimed now
to be more reliable, due to unique burn-in test, aimed to identify and eliminate causes of early
failures.
SkiiPs are operated for about two hours under worst case real inverter conditions at elevated voltage
and temperature. SKiiP undergoes one of two burn-in cycles. Tests with cooling water at 80° C and
cycling at a constant chip temperature. Junction temperature of the silicon reaches temperatures of

Enersys, worlds largest battery manufacturer and distributor, results for last nine month for
automotive and reserve operations reached almost 1,580 million dollars, and 461m last quarter.
Compared to same period 2007, 9 month increase of 9.3%, last quarter decrease of 16.7%.
Reserve Power operations sales reached $ 732m in nine month, increasing by 16% , and $ 227.4
